Epidemiology of candida bloodstream infections in a tertiary care institute in India.

چکیده
Numerous studies have demonstrated that alternative confirmatory strategies using algorithms with combinations of screening tests produce reliable results comparable to those of the standard ELISA and Western blot.[3-5] Moreover, the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) program on HIV/ AIDS currently recommends the routine use of combinations of screening tests for HIV screening, surveillance, and diagnosis.[2] Hence, we hope that this rapid, cheap, alternative testing strategy will provide an accurate result and reduce the overall cost of HIV diagnosis. Furthermore, HIV positive individuals will be able to get a confirmed result during their second visit. This will not only allow counselling and testing personnel to guide HIV infected individuals more effectively for treatment but also prevent a large number of HIV positive patients from being lost to follow-up. As such, we recommend that resourcelimited countries should consider adopting combination of rapid tests as an alternative strategy to LIA/WB for confirmation of HIV infection in their National recommendations.

Epidemiology and antifungal susceptibility of Candida species in a tertiary care hospital, Kolkata, India
Background and Purpose: The incidence of fungal infection as well as candidemia has increased significantly, contributing to morbidity and mortality in the developed countries. The alarming increase in infections with multidrug resistant bacteria is due to overuse of a broad spectrum antimicrobials, which leads to over growth of Candida spp.; thus, enhancing its opportunity to cause the disease...

The primary objective of the present study was to compare the serum vitamin D level between diabetics with foot infections and those without foot infections and the secondary objective was to assess the association between the vitamin D level and ...
متن کاملPrevalence and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Bacteria Isolated from Surgical Site and Bloodstream Infections of Hospitalized Patients at a Tertiary Heart Center
Background and Objectives: Bacterial bloodstream infections (BSIs) and surgical site infections (SSIs) are among the most common nosocomial infections with high mortality and morbidity. We aimed to evaluate the frequency of various species among BSIs and SSIs at Tehran Heart Center, Tehran, Iran. Methods: Patients with localized or systemic infections that became evident 48 hours or more after...
متن کاملDetection of Metallo-Beta-lactamase Production in Rare Carbapenem-Resistant Non-fermentative Gram-Negative Bacilli Isolated in a Tertiary Care Hospital, Visakhapatnam, India
Introduction: Non-fermentative Gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) are occasionally involved in infectious diseases pathology, but have shown resistance to multiple antibiotics and the capability to gain new resistance factors in the hospital environment. The present study was aimed to investigate the antibiotic susceptibility pattern of rare NFGNB isolated from different clinical samples and the pre...
متن کاملA retrospective analysis of antifungal susceptibilities of Candida bloodstream isolates from Singapore hospitals.
INTRODUCTION Worldwide, Candida albicans is the most common Candida species implicated in bloodstream infections. However, the proportion of non-albicans bloodstream infections is increasing. Fluconazole resistance is known to be more common in non-albicans species, but is also reported in C. albicans. This retrospective study was performed to determine the species epidemiology of Candida blood...
